Casa Pepi - Clot the new place to be

If you’ve never made it over into the El Clot Barrio, what are you waiting for? OK, so the neighborhood in the Sant Martí district isn’t on the tourist trail but this is what makes it so glorious. You won’t find yourself swamped in a large tour group of zombies fresh off the cruise ships, you’ll be unlikely to spot anti tourist graffiti scrawn on the walls and you might even be able to loosen your grip on your bag - although don't hold us to that. But here, in the heart of Clot you’ll be able to catch an “authentic” glimpse of Catalan life mixed with the vibrant feel of a neighbourhood on the up.

As you walk down the Carrer de la Sèquia Comtal, a beautiful tree lined pedestrian street, you’ll see the mordern illustrated sign of Casa Pepi stand out from the classic signwriting. This place brings all the cool, whilst holding onto all of the magic of a classic bodega feels. Josep Maria Ferraz, who’s fondly known as Pepi, is the star at the heart of this.

Inside, the restaurant is light and fresh. There’s charm in every corner, from the flashes of neon to the playlist full of 80s big hitters. This place is soulfood in every way.

The menu is banger after banger and Pepi speaks about each dish with such passion and nostalgia that it’s hard not to order the lot.

From Russian salad, peppered with piparras to pigs trotters in romesco. We ordered and we ate…dish after dish was balanced to perfection, classic meets contemporary, rich flavors blended with freshness, tradition with a flair of fun.

Casi Pepi ticks all the boxes…but if you really can’t drag yourself out of the city into what is set to be one of the coolest neighborhoods in town, then hop over to the sister restaurant, Bar Pimentel on Carrer Dels Carders, in the heart of Born and get yourself some equally delicious eats.
